Perth Hail Storm March 22nd 2010

Thursday, March 25th, 2010

Perth suffered devastation after the worst storm hit the region in 50 years. Hailstones up to about 6cm in diameter driven by powerful winds to over 100km/h smashed car windscreens as well as solar panels and windows of homes across the northern suburbs of Perth. Although the rain was welcome breaking a 104 day dry spell, flash flooding caused chaos to traffic and added to the damage of some homes. The Insurance Council of Australia says claims have already exceeded $200 million mark.

Heavy rains easing droughts February 2010

Thursday, February 25th, 2010

Michael,

This has to be the first year in many years that widespread useful rains have fallen across such a large region of NSW and Queensland basically breaking the drought in many of these areas and I guess a follow up of January rains. Goulburn which for the first time in history had basically run out of water has full reserviors which is excellent.
